Fairport’s Cropredy Convention 2007 & 2008

Posted on

As previously mentioned in my post about Fairport’s Cropredy Convention 2005 & 2006,  Fairport Convention are my all-time favourite band and their festival Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, is one of the biggest highlights of my year! As I recently returned from the festival, I thought I’d take the opportunity to remember the awesome sights and sounds by making a couple of posts: this one is for 2007 & 2008!

In 2007 I was extremely spoilt with the amount of fabulous bands that performed: Seth Lakeman & his band; The Demon Barbers Roadshow; Show of Hands; the Liege and Lief line-up and Richard Thompson & his band to name my absolute favourites! I brought my wonderful friend Avalon along for the first time and we nabbed some photos with Fairport Convention at the Pre-Cropredy Concerts (where I got to see Pentangle for the first time, and we both swooned repeatedly!). I also took one of my mum’s favourite photos of mine: the above black and white photo of Dave Swarbrick (her fiddling hero!).

In 2008 I brought the gorgeous Avalon again (as pictured above with the one and only Dave Pegg and myself!) and we spent our weekend in costume (fox & lion, fairies and soggy pirates). Once again, the festival out-did itself by bringing out some amazing artists: Supergrass; 3 Daft Monkeys; Levellers and Larkrise to Candleford. The big surprise of the weekend was Fairport Convention’s extremely special guest on the Saturday night… Robert Plant!

The photo of Avalon and I with Dave Pegg was taken by Chris Bates, who was having a pint at the bar with Dave Pegg when we pounced on him for a photo!

I’m not sure when I created it, but I administrate the Fairport’s Cropredy Convention Group on Flickr which has some amazing photographs on it, so if you’re interested in seeing more, please head over there!
