Life Lately…

 

Now that we’re over halfway through October, it’s starting to feel a little like we’ve just crested the top of a roller-coaster, in terms of the imminent arrival of our baby… The past few months have plodded along, but now time seems to be picking up pace somewhat!

About being pregnant

 

We found out that we were expecting on Easter Sunday. We took one test in the morning, which we didn’t quite believe, and so took another in the evening (after having spent a lovely but lengthy day with family!). That was the time we started to let the happiness, surprise, confusion, disbelief and glee wash over us. Finding out you’re growing a tiny, little human, is such an overwhelming feeling!

A secret…

 

As you may have noticed, I took a long and luxurious break from posting – the reason for which has been that we have been busying ourselves with the most wonderful and exciting secret. Of course, for some of you this won’t be a surprise as we’ve been sprinkling our news little by little over the past few weeks and months…

Antenatal Ward

 

I’m here to greet you, as you raise your head groggily from your pillow.
I always find myself speaking a little more softly than I feel I should,
But it feels right, today, my voice gently soothing in the morning light.

Water Birth

 

One of the first births I witnessed was a water birth. The woman I was caring for couldn’t wait to get into the pool when she arrived at the hospital, so as soon as the pool was full of water (they take a while to fill up – there’s a lot of water going in there) we helped her to get into the pool. As soon as she got into the pool, her face visibly relaxed and it seemed like the edge of her contractions blurred as she swayed in the water; it was as though the water empowered her to move her body in different patterns.
