Craft Beer Advent Calendar

You may, or may not be aware, that the ever-wonderful and thoughtful Jack bought me the most fantastic Christmas gift this year – a craft beer advent calendar! And boy, oh boy, have I been enjoying it..!

For each day of December, I’ve been making a mini-project from the advent calendar – a daily beer photograph with a Christmas theme! I’ve been posting them over on Instagram (and I will be posting a few on Flickr) but I thought I’d share them all on here, too. My grand plan had been to write reviews and ratings for each beer… But that hasn’t quite worked out. I’ve amalgamated the reviews I started making on my Untappd account with the ratings and rememberings in my brain (!), so,  here are the first 12 beers of Christmas (ha!) – enjoy!

Notes:

Westmalle Trappist Dubbel is absolutely delicious. Jack and I have tasted it previously at one of our favourite pubs – The Dovetail in Clerkenwell. Definitely our joint favourite of the three!

Camden Pils is a pretty pleasant Pilsner. It’s one of those refreshing ones that you can gulp forever and ever. Thumbs up!

Schneider Weisse is good for a wheat beer… But I’m not a big fan of wheat beers if I’m honest! (Sorry guys!) Definitely nice for a change though.

Notes:

Colonia is a tasty beer. I’d definitely have it again, and I’m keen to try more beers by Braufactum.

Saison dupont is, surprisingly, my favourite out of these three. I say surprisingly, because I generally avoid saisons like the plague (!) just goes to show that it’s good to push yourself out of your comfort zone and try new things!

Jever Pilsener is a really good pilsener. It would be bloody perfect with a curry!

Notes:

Camden Pale Ale is another fab one from Camden Town Brewery and our top voted out of the three. It’s a delicious pale ale, and I expect a good one for people who aren’t generally beer/ale drinkers (!) to give them a go. Yum!

Bellerose is really quite scrumptious too, and makes me eager to look up some more beers by Brasserie Des Sources.

Brooklyn American Ale is an easy drinker, and very enjoyable.

Notes:

White Ale is my absolute favourite beer of the advent calendar so far. I have to say, that Hitachino Nest make some of the most fabulous beers (and I adore the story of their name – check it out on the James Clay website!) but this one really is top notch. I want more of these in my fridge!

Strawberry Lambicus is a scrummy, slightly sour, strawberry beer. Anyone that knows me will know I love a sour one… It could have been a bit more sour for me (!) but was still lovely.

Dead Pony Club is by the always brilliant Brewdog, one of our favourite breweries. As it states itself, it’s a session pale ale, and is just plain ol’ awesome. Another good one for folks who haven’t tried much beer/ale!

Expect 12 more beers post-Christmas day (!) click here for part 2 – hope you’re all having a fab week so far and are ready for Christmas to greet you next week! Take care!
