This Fairport’s Cropredy Convention post is about Moulettes, who were absolutely fantastic!
Prior to reading about them in the festival programme, I’d not heard of Moulettes before; they were definitely my favourite discovery at the festival this year! Avalon and I spotted Ruth’s bassoon and scampered as close to the stage as we could get (we both love the bassoon!).
Their set was gorgeous and we were pretty much entranced. Like lots of modern folk music, their style incorporates a number of genres (classical, jazz, indie, blues, prog-rock…) and creates many a beautiful sound! I love the fact that their website says that they’re been compared to Tom Waits and Shostakovitch: not many artists can boast such a variety of comparisons!
I would definitely recommend going to see them live if you ever get the chance. If you fancy checking them out please go to their website and do pop into their SoundCloud to have wee a listen too!
Next up? TheĀ Peatbog Faeries!
